Abstract

This study aims to propose some possible methods to mitigate non-tariff barriers related to rules of origin as a mechanism for activating the African Free Trade Area, by drawing on the clarification of the conceptual framework of rules of origin as a form of non-tariff restrictions in foreign trade and then highlighting the background of the establishment of the free trade area and the most important reasons and motives that led to its establishment, as well as the benefits of its establishment, as well as the benefits of providing some proposals related to the mitigation of the barriers associated with the rules of origin, which would activate the course of the free trade area African. The studies have concluded many conclusions, perhaps the most notable of which is that the development, implementation and verification of the rules of origin will decisively determine the extent of the economic gains that will be gained from this region, as well as the distribution of these gains and the features of regional value chains in the future. Policies to build the institutional capacity of customs authorities, and the need to use new technology to reduce the costs of private sector compliance.
