The determinants of SMEs / SMIs growth in Algeria: Survey of a sample of companies in the wilaya of Bejaia

Abstract
The main objective of this article is to identify the determinants of the growth of SMEs / SMIs through a qualitative study based on a field survey among a sample of companies in the wilaya of Bejaia. The results of our study show that referring mainly to job creation as an indicator of growth, can lead to a biased evaluation. Indeed, our results affirm that the growth of SMEs / SMIs is a cmplex phenomenon, composed of several variables and that it is difficult to reduce it to a measure reading the positive variation of a given indicator. Thus, staff training, technology and intangible variables are also growth levers that should not be neglected.
